I saw the comments about Jan's pipes from the Yahoo Pipe smoker's club and follow up from Rick Olszewski's Smokeshopreview.com. So I went nuts and ordered all 4 pipes of the year. Jan, your web site is quite well done, and look forward to receiving my pipes after the new year. Happy holiday's Al Brofsky PS: I'm drooling over the picture of the Gandorr, but it's going to be a long while before I can aford one of those.

Last week I recieved my 7 th Jan Zeman pipe...the Baranor. Iwas previosly a little reluctant to try one of the LOTR Pipes [Ultra Conservative],but Jan con vinced me that the Bamboo extended stem would result in a great cool smoke. What an understatement.I have smoked the Baranor extensively for the past week, and can only say that this is the coolest smoking pipe Ihave in my collection.it is a superb piece of work. in addition to this great new Pipe,Jan has also restored the stem on an old favourite Dutch pipe by hand carving a new Ebonite stem for me. Not only a great Pipe designer, but a great restorer as well. Terrific work Jan,and as always,a pleasure to work with. regards Murray

Howdy from Texas, Jan, I want to thank you for "rushing" my YPSC 2003 club pipe. I really didn't expect it until after the Holidays perhaps mid January, imagine my surprize to find it in my mailbox today! I must say this pipe easily beats any pipe I've owned thus-far in quality of materials and workmanship. I'm not one who will often pay more than $100 US for a pipe. This pipe is beautiful and I shall smoke it proudly! I am also very interested in your "Mary Celeste" and "Fiery Cross" pipes when I've saved up some more coin. If I may I would also ask if you have ever considered making "Canadian, Lovat, or Lumberman" formats. These are my personal favorite shapes and I would definately be proud to own anything you could carve along those lines. Once again, thank you for your very prompt and special service. I know I shall be rewarded with many a fine bowl through this outstanding pipe, Sincerely, Robert Rowe

Wow! That is all I can really say. Although two years late, I asked Jan to make me a YPSC 2001 Club Pipe. It has become one of my favorite smokers, right up there with my Dunhill, Ashton's, Peterson, Bosi, Mastro de Paja, Ser Jacapo and more. I don't like to compare, but these pipes show superior craftsmanship, equal to Jan's work. In fact the YPSC 2001 Club Pipe I received has nearly perfect straight grain, and again is one of my favorites. I look forward to hosting some of Jan's pipes on Smoke Shop Review. I think our readers would really appreciate the effort. Sincerely, Rick Olszewski Smoke Shop Review 11-01-2003

The much anticipated smoke did not disappoint. Best pipe in my collection and a definite bargain at that price. I recommend Zeman pipes to all my family and close friends. Thanks again! Jon in OK

I've had my YPSC 2003 Club pipe for about two weeks now, and have smoked it fairly heavily. The pipe itself is a really nice piece of work. A cleaner passes through without effort, the fit is great, and the drilling is centered - but these are things I've come to expect of your pipes! It's lighter than any of the other pipes I've purchased from you, too. What impresses me about this one, though, is the smokability. The pipe remains cool from light to finish. The flavor delivery is supurb. This new pipe will take a place on my rack alongside my favorites. Thanks!

Greetings, Jan, Your are getting better and better all the time. But where are your Canadians? Your pipes ofcourse :-) Algimantas, lover of Canadians

Greetings Jan, It just seems like yesterday that I placed my order of the Latitude Four Pack and here they are! Now ether I have been lost in transitional nodes of thought for weeks whilst enjoying the smoking pleasures from my exquisite Zeman collection,or I have to join the chorus of your other clients in saying the you New Zealanders know how to deliver! Actually both statements are true. Six working days later The Latitudes arrived, and after smoking all four I would like to offer my comments. Yes I am ashamed to admit it but... I have smoked store bought factory made pipes in the past! Everyone needs some filler pipes for running around and to help ease the rotation of their pipe collection. The problem...I was very disappointed with the chamber size and how they held up. It was also hard to find a factory made pipe without a filter. I really don't like filters; they just muck up and are hard to clean! After smoking your modified Latitude pipe I can say that it is a leap ahead from what I tried in the past form other suppliers. These are nice little pipes! They have a good feel to them, they are solid but very light, and they smoke great. I also like the sandblast finish and color that you have on this batch of latitudes. One can tell that the Zeman touch has blessed these factory made pipes! The Latitudes will have their place and will serve me well.. but will never the place of the pride, joy, and pleasure that your hand crafted pipes bestow! By the way.. thanks for making my decision painless with your four pack offer, and what a price! I don't know how you do it, but as always you offer quality without breaking the bank. Best regards, Greg Lenz

Hi Jan - Both the Raquell and Casanta are exquisiste. Wish I were able to add one or both to my collection. Hopefully once things improve for me I can resume buying pipes from you. Your artistry is exemplary and reflected in how well your pipes smoke. Take care.

Fiery Cross
Fiery Cross

Shiver me timbers Jan, My ship came in and her name is the Fiery Cross! Avast Ye mates! This here pipe is a must have for she is a great smoker, and her picture on Captain Zemans web site don't do her justice. The feel of this poker style pipe is just fantastic, and when I comment on how great it smokes I mean it. I find it hard to put down, and I at amiss when the tobacco is turned into dottle! So its time to go on account ye landlubbers ! Get your sea legs and ye too can become an old sea dog. Short of Davy Jones's Locker the Fiery Cross is the best treasure ye can find! Greg (Sea Dog) Lenz.

Your site is truely inspireing and I like the way you can veiw the pipes from many different angles good pics. I am also interested in knowing if you sell seconds in the gandorr or thorrin pipes. as I am not in a position to purchase a $100 plus dollar pipe at this time due to children on the way. also I am looking for a briar supplier. THank you for your site inspiration and time Wayne R McDaniel II

Very nice site. Loved your pipes. Very tastefully understated. I will be back to purchase later. I would not have noticed your site were it not for my following a link from the ASP usenet group. Seems like you have had two great careers, Photography (In beautiful New Zeeland, no less) and pipemaking. My best regards, Ed Lakin

I recently ordered all three of Jan's LOTR series pipes. Jan is a pleasure to deal with, and is very prompt in his communication and delivery - the NZ Post is much faster than the USPS, for sure! All three pipes are beautiful and have a reserved spot right beside some much more expensive pipes in my display cabinet. They all smoke great - my favorite is probably Thorrin, which fits to the hand nicely. Though Aragorrn is a close second - it's a very comfortable and cool smoker. I will most assuredly order another Zeeman pipe soon! Best regards, Barry Mattingly San Diego, CA USA

Jan, I just went to your site looking for a picture for the Smoke Shop Review website. I was very impressed with the quality of your pipes and your creative imagination. It's good to see that you go out on your own with ideas. Your pipes are quite exquisite, and while I'll check back here from time to time, maybe someday I'll acquire such a treasure. Keep up the good work. Rick O - CT www.smokeshopreview.com

Mr. Zeman, I would be interested in buying one or more of your pipes if you would make them with a 23mm chamber diameter, about 150mm long if straight, and at least 55mm in height with wall thickness of about 8mm. I like your freehands and the panel. Please advise when your site is updated with more pipes. Thank you.

I personally will smoke nothing but a Zeman Pipe! Jan truly puts his soul into his work and the outcome is a work of art that is a pleasure to reflect upon while enjoying the smokability of these well made pipes. I have purchased eight outstanding pipes from Jan consisting of one from the lord of the rings series, two wonderful pipes from the smooth and rustic series, three inspiring pipes from the signature series, and one specialty made signature pipe! All are excellent smokers and I find it hard to keep from wanting more. Jan's pipes are hand made and even if he tried no two pipes would be the same so with a Zeman pipe you truly are smoking a work of art that no one else can enjoy but you! So if you see a Zeman pipe that wins you over don't hesitate to buy it for you won't see the likes of it again. I have kicked my self many times for that mistake. I can also highly recommend complimenting your pipe a Zeman tamper. I just love the two that I own. Jan's video tape Pipes,Bike & Lots Of Blue Smoke is also a must buy. It is an educational and enjoyable to watch with a well packed pipe. I can go on but in leaving Jan is a great person to deal with he cares about his work and your satisfaction. I think I just talked my self into buying another Zeman pipe.:) Best regards, Gregory J Lenz

I have today received my new Concerto horn style pipe from Jan. The finnish is superb, as always, and the style treatment makes for a most elegant addition to my growing collection of Zeman pipes. Jan is a great craftsman,as well as being a real gentleman,a pleasure to do business with.

Jan I would like a Cape Resolution for my collection please Best regards Seb.

Jan, Pipe arrived today. Boy, your postal service is infinitely superior to ours. Pipe got here in only five days !!! The "Carlos" is beautiful. Not quite the Buuldog shape I am accustomed to, more Rhodesian, but wonderful nevertheless. I am very pleased. Thank you very much Jan. As always, you do exceptional work. Well, this week I will be enjoying our pipe show in Chicago. hard to believe another year has passed. Any decisions yet on your travel plans? Take care dear friend, Gayl

Jan has delayed his European tour due to SARS, and as a result he was able to carve my Club 2000 pipe earlier than anticipated. The pipe arrived today and is superb, to say the least. The finish and the attention to detail has resulted in a pipe that is even finer than I had hoped for. Thanks for a great effort, Jan. Regards Murray

Cutty Sark
Cutty Sark

I have today recieved my first two Zeman pipes. The Lat 41 Red Tide series. A good working pipe that Jan has finished to his standards. Excellent grain and waxed finish. The 2nd is the Old Seadog series, Cutty Sark. This is a magnificent work, reminiscent in style to an old German briar I smoked over 30 years ago in the former colony of South West Africa. Jan's Cutty Sark, however is in a class of its own.The base has been widened to fit perfectly in the hand and this added bulk ensures that the pipe can never get too hot in the hand. It smokes like a dream. The taper from the base to the bowl creates a perfect line. The man is an artist as well as being a superb craftsman. Jan has kindly contracted to carve me my own Club 2000 on his return from his travels in Europe... I wait in keen anticipation.

Dear Jan, Last night I recieved one of your LOTR series pipes as a gift from my son-in-law. It is an "Aragorrn". I am an avid pipe smoker and a scholar of J.R.R.Tolkien's works, so i was delighted to get the pipe. I was immediately impressed with its quality and artistry. I have seen very little really good stuff, related to the LOTR theme, and this pipe was an outstanding exception. I particularly like the unusual "whittled" finish. I think it is perfect for the series. I also hope you will continue to develop it. I am curious about the inscription on the band, what does it say or mean, I just can't quite make it out. The LOTR is largely responsible for my getting back into pipe smoking after nearly 40 years hiatus. I was watching the movie when it struck me that there were all these fat, happy hobbits languidly smoking their pipes; I use to do that and enjoyed it. It also brought to a focus my growing distaste for the "Taliban" mantality of the anti-tobacco, ani-everything, intolerant movement that seems to have gripped this country. Upon taking up pipe smoking fourty years later, I felt that I had fallen in with some druggy counter-culture. Well, so be it! I mean, the Puritans were kicked out of two countries after all, before they landed on these shores and proceeded to spil everyone's fun for the next 400 years. I got on GOOGLE this morning and, feeling lucky, typed in your name and landed immediately on your web site. I will continue to monitor your web site and have seen a number of pipes that interest me. You made a beautiful sandblast that was marked "SOLD", but I hope you will create more of these from time to time. Your pipes will be proudly displayed among my collection of Dunhills, Castellos and old Barlings. Carry on. Sincerely, Dave Haupt
